The BUEC 2023 Winter season is over! All series have been played, all the points have been counted. 110 universities have joined the fight to be crowned Esports University of the Year, though we'll see who that is by the end of Spring 2024. In the meantime, let's see what happened this Winter...

We've had a good shuffle in our top 10 since Spring 2023 but there are still some usual suspects amongst the crowd. The University of Warwick stands at the forefront, leading with an impressive 2272 points, the University of Southampton follows in second place moving up a nice 2 spots since last season. Durham University has cemented itself as a top 3 contender as they have claimed third place, only down just one spot from Spring. Swansea University has put in an incredible effort and made the top 5 for the first time ever, huge congrats to them. King's College London has also put in an amazing effort placing in fifth, moving up from 23rd last season.

There is plenty still to play for coming into the Spring season next year, only 63 points separate 2nd place University of Southampton and 6th place University of Portsmouth. Compared to last Spring, there are three new universities joining the exclusive top ten group; Swansea University, University of the West of England and King's College London, two of these even making the top five!

We'd also like to wish a warm welcome to our best newcomer, Buckinghamshire New University, they have reached 83rd place with 61 points.

Heated competition has swept across the entire UK as regional rivalries intensify in anticipation of the Spring Season. The University of Edinburgh have only just pipped the University of Glasgow to 'Best in Scotland' by one place and Swansea University have taken back their number one spot from Cardiff University for 'Best in Wales'. See the current standings of the Best Regional Esports Universities for Winter 2023 below:

  • Best in Scotland: University of Edinburgh
  • Best in Wales: Swansea University
  • Best in Northern Ireland: Queen's University Belfast
  • Best in England: University of Warwick
  • Best in London: King's College London

Well done to the teams that performed well this winter, but don't get too comfortable, with small point differences between many teams, everything could change in our Spring season!
