Our September Society of the Month is Swansea Esports Society - Congratulations!
Swansea were chosen for having one of our favourite freshers fair stands. We spoke to 'Hectic' the President of the Swansea Esports Society to ask a few questions about how freshers went and and what's next for the society in the upcoming months.
Thank you for having such a well-organised stand! How did the Freshers' Fair go for your society, and did everything run smoothly as planned?
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the Freshers Fayre because I was out of the country for a university field trip. I have my events coordinator Ben Holland to thank for making everything run as smoothly as it did, he had complete jurisdiction over what was going on in those couple of days and did a perfect job. Freshers Fayre time of year always has its stresses and especially with myself being out of the country and I couldn't ask for more from my committee family, they nailed it.
What are your plans with the society this year and what are you most excited about running?
Our plan as a whole is to pump out more general socials than what we did last year and hope to get a lot more interaction between games to give the space for people to get to know each other from their different titles. Feel like it's all too easy to stick within your game and not ever get to know somebody playing a different game than yourself so we want to be able to have a stronger link as a society overall. I'm very excited to keep working with XP gaming going forward, they offer a lot and have been very good to us so far. There is a lot we'll be able to host there with even the possibility that we'll be able to play some of the weekly tournament games in the PC room they have at their venue. Very excited to see what we can do with them over the coming months, which I'm sure you will hear about.
How did your first social at XP Gaming Bar go, and how do you think it helped new members feel welcome?
It was a bit daunting at the start since we weren't exactly sure how many people would turn up but in the end, we were happy to see the amount that we did. It's always nice to see new faces. I think it's important especially for a first meet to make people feel comfortable and not under any kind of pressure, which is what we were going for. Chill night with a couple of stations of Nintendo Switch and a darts station mixed with a couple of drinks if people wanted them. It all worked out pretty well!
Which game are you most confident in competing in the upcoming season?
I would say all of the games, but as an Overwatch player through and through I'll always be most invested in how my overwatch bros are doing. Seriously though it would have to be R6, they are the real demons on the keyboard and mouse, good luck to all the R6 teams out there, you are gonna need it!
