Oxbridge Esports Varsity 2024

Oxbridge Esports Varsity 2024

Oxford University Gaming and Esports Society (OUGES) and Cambridge University Digital Gaming Society (CUDGS) are excited to announce the dates and locations of our historic Oxbridge Esports Varsity. The Oxbridge Esports Varsity match enters its 11th year; with Cambridge having emerged victorious by 1 point in the close 2023 match, they have extended their overall lead to 6-4. The rivalry between Oxford and Cambridge is well-known with the Esports Varsity taking place in Easter alongside other famous Varsity such as the Rugby Varsity Matches and the famous Boat Race.

The headline partner for the Oxbridge Esports Varsity 2024 is NZXT, building on the relationship OUGES and NZXT forged earlier this year in establishing Oxford University’s first Esports Facility at Jesus College, Oxford. NZXT will be supporting our esports players, both on and off the stage for what will be the biggest Oxbridge Esports Varsity.

This year, Varsity will begin on the main esports stage at the Insomnia Gaming Festival (29th March), followed by a 2-day event at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere (6-7th April). A total of 5 games will be played this year: Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, and Valorant.

Varsity Day 1 will begin at 12:30 pm live from the Insomnia Gaming Festival on 29th March, with Overwatch 2 starting at 1pm, and Rocket League at 4pm.

Varsity Days 2 and 3 will take place at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere, 6th-7th April, with the show beginning at 10:30 am each day. On Saturday, the Counter-Strike 2 match will begin at 11 am, followed by League of Legends at 2 pm. At 11 am on Sunday we have a special Counter-Strike 2 alumni showmatch, and finally Valorant will begin at 2 pm later that day.

Sameer Mazhar (OUGES Partnerships Officer): “We are really excited to be working together with our long-term partners at NZXT on our annual Oxbridge Varsity and to bring part of our Oxbridge Esports Varsity to the Insomnia Gaming Festival. It is an exciting new stage for the historic Oxbridge Varsity and many thanks to Insomnia for facilitating this. Thanks also goes to Red Bull for hosting the Varsity at the Gaming Sphere following on from the last 2 years.”

Gustav Conradie (CUDGS President): “I’m very thankful for the support from NZXT, Hunt, Insomnia, and Red Bull in helping us put on this event, and grateful for all the hard work put in by everyone on the Varsity Committee this year - we’re looking forward to the biggest Varsity ever!”

Trishna Cole (Marketing & PR Manager UK and Nordics, NZXT): “I’m excited to see the Oxbridge Varsity play out on the main stage of Insomnia and am proud to be a partner of the AFK Esports Suite, a dedicated space for the OUGES teams to practice and compete. Special thanks to Insomnia and Red Bull for providing the opportunity to bring the Varsity to a wider audience!”
