The students who make up university esports are incredible and their efforts over the last 6 months have proved it. Raising over £10,000 with events, streams and some great activities for all. Below we've got the five highest earning fundraisers so far, but there were many other awesome events and you can view the full list of fundraisers here.

Students have also been showing their support by getting SpecialEffect badges added to their esports jerseys in the Raven store. So far 144 jerseys have been ordered with the SpecialEffect Badge raising £288.

There's still a little under half the year to go, why not get involved at university and make a difference to the lives of your fellow gamers too? Even the smallest amounts raised go a long way. Here's five fundraisers to inspire you!

ACOG (Aberystwyth University Gaming Society) raised £2,251.80

ACOG have a long history of putting on fantastic events to benefit SpecialEffect and this year would be no different! They ran a 72 hour LAN and stream marathon over a long weekend and raised the most of any society so far this year. Whether it was onion eating challenges or live tournaments they had something for everyone. Here's the awesome team behind the event celebrating at the end of last term

LSESU Gaming Society (London School of Economics) raised £2,153.74

Last year LSESU Gaming Society won their university’s award for Best Fundraising Event for their contributions to SpecialEffect and this year they raised over £2,000 which is a remarkable feat. They had a number of challenges for their members and committee, here’s them contending with the terror known as Pacman (LOUD WARNING!)

RHUL Games Society (Royal Holloway, University of London) raised £1,228.38

This was RHUL Games Soc’s first ever 24 hour stream marathon and they knocked it out of the park. They ran “Donate to Dance” where anyone donating during the Just Dance part of the stream got to pick a song the committee had to dance to in their costumes. Their Treasurer Reuben even put his beard on the line for donations, he had a lucky escape this time narrowly missing the total but will his beard be safe next year?

Someone who was most definitely not lucky was Dan, as the VR proved too much for him to take

The Uni Esports Games (University of Gloucestershire) raised £1,006.00

The Uni Esports Games was a coming together of students at Gloucestershire to put on an awesome live event and raise funds for SpecialEffect. They had live games, a great stream and the Nintendo Society even put on a cake sale!

A highlight has to be the moment eight unfortunate souls questioned why they agreed to eat super spicy chillis

Hull Computer and Gaming Society (University of Hull) raised £602.47

Each year Hull ComSoc run their 24hr Wilberforce takeover which is a LAN and charity stream event all rolled into one! They made a great effort despite numerous logistical setbacks and persevered to raise over £600!

Here’s the letter they received from SpecialEffect thanking them after the event
