Durham University have been chosen as the Pot Noodle Society of the Month for June!
We spoke to their new vice president, Dunebug, to find out more...
Huge congratulations on being chosen as our Pot Noodle Society of the Month! What did your society get up to in June?
We completed a big university tournament where members of the different colleges at Durham compete to find out which college has the best gamers! We also had an end of year meal, a ball with the computer science and women in tech societies, a couple bar crawls, an election for a few roles that hadn't been filled and a modicum of drama.
Definitely sounds eventful! I'd love to hear more about the college tournament - what inspired this, and how did it run?
It's a yearly tradition, going back at least 6 years, to do an inter-collegiate tournament, being a collegiate university, we've always had sports between different colleges, why not esports as well? We had 96 players taking part across 9 games with 26 players joining in with more than on game, including 12 alumni!
Wow, you guys really came together as a society, super impressive! Speaking of, how was the end of year meal to celebrate?
It's a slight tradition to have an end of year meal or ball to celebrate the year and give out some awards, some (comedic) ones made by the community like 'Best Benchwarmer' or 'Least Controversial Exec' and others from the exec like 'DUEG MVP' and 'Commitment to Esports'. This year we went for a meal at a local Italian place. It was rather memorable handing out awards right in the centre of town!
What a great way to wrap up the year, I hope it went down a treat. With summer in full swing, we're all beginning to think about the next academic year. Any big plans for Durham?
Well, we have a new role for esports coordinator to hopefully have some more success in NSE this upcoming year with a little more care and attention for our players. We're also hoping to hold more events throughout the year, continuing with 'Durham's Greatest Gamer' and our usual fighting games tournaments which are always quite popular locally.
We'll be keeping an eye out for Durham next year then! It's time for the final question. Following on from our chat about meals, if you had to create a Pot Noodle meal deal, what would it be?
Curry-flavour Pot Noodle with a slice of garlic bread would go crazy as a meal deal.
