NSE Patch Notes 8.0

With the British University Esports Championship (BUEC) winter sign-ups in full swing, here’s a rundown of what we’ve updated for the upcoming season in the championship. Broadly speaking, we are happy with how last year's season ran and will only be making small changes to most tournaments. Our big focus this year is around updating BUEC points to better scale for smaller events, changing some dates to avoid clashes and improving women's events.

BUEC Points Update

The BUEC points system was originally designed with fixed points values assigned to each finishing position. When NSE was a lot smaller, with tournaments only having around 64-100 teams per event, this worked well. However,  this limited the ability to scale for big events and smaller events, for example Women & Non-Binary tournaments. Going forward we will be using the following formula (line of best fit for previous system) with an additional rule: 1st place is always worth 150 points. There will be additional scaling for events with less than 64 teams. This will allow for smoother scaling and allow us to award points to smaller events like Women & Non-Binary tournaments.

Women and Non-Binary Esports

We will now be running Women & Non-Binary events in the Esports Coven Discord. The Esports Coven is the home for Women & Non-Binary players at university. It provides a safe space for anyone who wants to meet new people, take part in community events or compete in tournaments. By working with the Coven, we are hoping to grow the existing community and create new opportunities for bigger events. Join the community here.​

Tournament Specific:

Apex Legends

• Change of date Tuesday -> Thursday. To avoid clash with patch day.

League of Legends

• Added delay spectator delay to custom settings 

Marvel Rivals

• Change of date Sunday -> Tuesday. This avoids potential clashes with official marvel rival events.

Overwatch 2

• Updated Map Pool:
• Control: Ilios, Lijiang Tower, Samoa
• Hybrid/Flashpoint: Eichenwalde, Hollywood, King's Row, Aatlis, Suravasa
• Push: Esperança, New Queen Street
• Escort: Junkertown, Rialto, Watchpoint: Gibraltar
• Adjusted schedule to avoid OWCS finals:
• Sunday 23rd October, the extra match day for Division 1 teams, will now have 2 BO5 matches for teams in the lower bracket and 1 BO5 match for the upper finals.
• Sunday 30th October is no longer an extra match day.
• Week 8, Thursday 4th October, will now also contain the Division 1 lower bracket finals.

Rainbow 6 Siege X 

• We will be increasing the penalty for players who do not record MOSS files for teams in division 1. Teams who qualify will be directly contacted with updated policy.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

We will no longer be running Super Smash Bros. Ultimate official season. Unfortunately we did not get enough players playing last season.

Teamfight Tactics

Due the release of season 16 mid-term we have made the following changes:

• Main season will be reduced in length to 3 weeks with 1 week playoff.
• Additional double up tournament will be running starting 10th November

VALORANT

There is an upcoming VALORANT patch that will adjust the competitive map pool after Week 1 of NSE Winter. To accommodate the new map rotation and also give players time to adjust, we will be using the current map pool until the end of Stage 1. From Week 4, we will be using the new updated map pool.
