Welcome to the opening of the first two tournaments in the inaugural British University Esports Championship season. Today, hot on the heels of ESL One Birmingham and the FACEIT London Major, we open signups for both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and DOTA 2. Signups for our other four titles open later this week.

CS:GO

Last weekend saw two UK players qualify for the Legends stage of a Counter-Strike Major for the first time ever. There has truly never been a more exciting moment to get involved with UK Counter Strike. Whether you want to be the next Smooya or just want a great competitive social experience, the NSE Counter-Strike Winter Championship has something for you.

DOTA 2

The Birmingham Major put UK Dota on the map, selling out nearly 8,000 tickets in record time. The university Dota 2 scene is no less passionate and to properly give the best university esports experience we’ve joined forces with Arrow League, who have been running university tournaments in the UK for several years.

How is the competition structured?

Both tournaments are made up of two stages, the Swiss stage and the Playoffs. The Swiss Stage is a skill matched competition in which all teams play to qualify for divisional playoffs. The top 16 teams after three weeks will start in the Championship Bracket (Division 1) with other teams continuing in the Swiss. In week 5 the Challenger Bracket (Division 2) is introduced with the 4 lowest teams from the Championship Bracket and top 12 from the Swiss being placed into it. Week 6 sees the introduction of Division 3 made up of the bottom four of the Challenger Bracket and top 12 of the Swiss.

If it sounds complicated fear not! We’ll publish some visual guides before the start of the competition.

What skill level should I expect?

There’s a huge range of different skills and abilities within university competition and our tournament structure is specifically built to give the best possible experience to players of all skill levels. From week one, you’ll be competing alongside players of similar skill and every week will bring you closer to your perfect match. Crucially, the divisional system means that almost every team will have something to play for at every stage of the tournament.

What can I win?

As well as the title and glory, teams will be competing to win British University Esports Championship points for their university. The university with the most points at the end of the year will be crowned the official Esports University of the Year and win a package of support as well as their place in history.

The initial prize breakdown of each tournament is as follows:
