Our April Society of the Month is the Roehampton Esports Society - Congratulations!

We chose Roehampton for not only hosting some engaging events during the month such as a social for their Esports awards night where they gave out team and individual recognition to the best of our society and scholars. They also hosted a massive 52 hour charity live stream where they raised a massive £1150 for Special effect.

We reached out to Roehampton's Esports Coordinator, "Xabixao" to learn more about what it takes to organize such impactful events and the inspiration behind their initiatives.

Can you tell us about the charity you supported during the 52-hour stream? What inspired you to choose this particular cause?
We held the charity stream for Special effect / We choose special effect because of the impact it has on other gamers and how it relates to our hobbies and interests. Also the staff were so kind and made us feel part of the special effect family. They sent over merch and a hand written thank you note which was a really nice touch.

How much money did you raise during the charity stream? How does this compare to your initial fundraising goal?
We managed to raise £1150, our initial goal was £700 so we smashed it and everyone put it an amazing shift.

What were some of the highlights of the 52-hour charity stream? Any memorable moments or challenges?
The whole stream was a montage, we completed over 50 forfeits from some of students eating spoonful of marmite to getting waxed to wearing clown costumes it was a stream full of wholesome moments and hilarious forfeits.

Is there anyone you want to give a shoutout to that helped make it possible?
Special shout out to Lewis Ritchie (Yotam) who helped to organize the whole stream. And all of the students who took part in the 52 hours (Jacob, Kaspr, Elysianwatcher, Yotam, Decay, Marlon Clark, Mody, NeoQuan and Radiator) as well as Ri, Momo and Echoes
