From March 31st to April 3rd, The University of Nottingham Game society made full use of our Intel tech to run a weekend of fun and practices ahead of the Insomnia  Gaming Festival i70. The "UoN LAN" included variety games and popular competitive titles like VALORANT and CS:GO generously spread out across the 4-day event.

We spoke with the University of Nottingham's Game Society President, Aston "Kieswetter10" Hollingsworth to find out more about how the event came together!

"We had a whole range of fun events going on throughout the weekend from custom 10-mans to our rival communities clashing in the heated CS:GO vs VALORANT tournament to determine which is the better fps game. It was a very close competition with it coming down to the tie breaker of the very respectable game FPS Chess in which VALORANT took the victory despite all odds! We also had the fated Committee vs Reps tournament which took place over a range of games including VALORANT, League of Legends and Overwatch, in which unfortunately the Reps took the win- but had a very close 2-3 score line. We will get them next time!"

With the VALORANT Women & Non-binary NSE Spring Cup Finals right around the corner, the Nottingham side "Nott Men" prepared with some crucial last-minute scrim practices through the UoN LAN Event in a Box. In the cheery words of Kieswetter10, "We are incredibly proud of them for coming so far and are sure they will take the top spot next year!"

The society made sure to organise broadcasts with live hosting, casting and interviews to give an opportunity for students to dip their feet in the water with live commentary and production! With the hard work of Karlos Chao putting together graphic packages for the stream and the on/off-air talent, it proved to be a great success.

"I want to say a massive thank you to all of the committee, game reps and the University of Nottingham Student Union for supporting and helping to organise this event! Also one more thank you to NSE and Intel for providing us the hardware to be able to run the event. Whilst my time as president at UoN Gamesoc is coming to an end, I am very glad that this was the last major event that I can end it on and I am looking forward to seeing what next year’s committee will be cooking up for the society!" - Kieswetter10.
