Our February "Society of the Month" is the University of Essex Esports Club - Congratulations!
After being approached by UK-based charity, MS-UK, Essex Esports Club put together a heart-warming 24 hour stream to raise awareness towards Multiple Sclerosis, and raised a whopping £284.75!
We reached out to the Vice President of the Society, 'Ge0rgia', for her perspective on the event and how it all unfolded. We thought it was a perfect story to share!
"We were approached by MS-UK, a charity tasked with raising awareness for multiple sclerosis, about organising an event to take part in to raise money. We discussed various gaming challenges we could host, with the objective of getting our club members and the general public involved while raising awareness of the condition and the challenges individuals face on a daily basis.
Gaming is an inclusive activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, so it's a brilliant way to bring people together. We decided to do a 24 hour gaming livestream, where four of our club executives and game representatives took part. A livestream is a fantastic way to interact with donators and viewers live, and the turnout was fantastic.
Our original donation goal was £50, we managed to hit that even before hitting the one hour mark of the stream. Overall, in 24 hours we raised £284.75 which is absolutely mind-blowing!
We had so much fun taking part in the livestream and entertaining all our viewers. We plan on working with more charities in the future to bring fun and engaging gaming events and activities to students and the general public to get involved with while helping those in need."
We'd like to offer our congratulations to Essex for their fantastic charitable contributions and the success of their livestream event. Hopefully it can inspire others as much as it did us!
